Boldly Before the Throne

"Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)

In the early days of my career, the concept of an "open-door" policy emerged. Before this, managers often worked behind closed doors, making themselves largely inaccessible unless they had a scheduled meeting. However, with the advent of this new policy, managers encouraged greater access and fostered better working relationships with their teams. This idea, though innovative at the time, is far from new. As today's verse illustrates, God has always extended us an "open throne" policy.

Approaching God's throne can evoke many emotions: awe, respect, fear, unworthiness, nervousness, and humility. Standing before the King of Kings is an honor and privilege not to be taken lightly. Thus, the word "confidence" might not come immediately to mind.

However, the preceding verse reminds us, "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin." Jesus, our intercessor, fully understands our timidity and feelings of inadequacy caused by sinfulness. Yet, He invites us to approach confidently, assured in God's grace, where we receive mercy and forgiveness.

Heavenly Father, thank you for granting us access to Your throne of grace and extending Your forgiveness. Help us remember we can confidently approach You, assured by the grace we have through Jesus Christ. May we carry this blessed assurance into our daily lives, living righteously and witnessing the good news to others. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
