From Ashamed to Unashamed

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. Romans 1:16 NIV

We've likely all done things we wish we hadn't, stuff we are ashamed of. This isn't meant as a confession time for me to bore you with mine; suffice it to say, yes, there are some things I'm not proud of in my past. The Apostle Paul, then Saul, had some things, too. We don't have an extensive list, but we know that before being struck down on the Road to Damascus, he was an instigator in the death of Christians. (Acts 7:58)

But that was the old Saul. In today's verse, the new Paul talks about what he is unashamed about: the gospel. In Paul's encounter with Christ, he experienced something far greater than a name change; he came face-to-face with the life-changing salvation offered to all. Those things he had been ashamed of in the past were forgiven!

He continues in the next verse, "For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: 'The righteous will live by faith.'" Forgiven, God shows him a new way to live—a way of holiness in which there is nothing ever to be ashamed of.

Just as Paul received this gift of salvation, so can we. The promise in Jesus Christ is inclusive—it extends to everyone who believes, regardless of their past. Through the power of the gospel, we too can move from ashamed to unashamed. The grace of God washes away our past mistakes and regrets, and we are given a fresh start. He sets our feet on the path of righteousness.

Moreover, this transformation calls us to share the good news with others. As Paul boldly proclaimed the gospel, we are also called to spread the message of salvation. It's not just a gift to cherish but a powerful truth to share with those around us. By living out our faith and sharing the gospel, we can help others experience the same life-changing grace that Paul did.

Heavenly Father, with hearts full of gratitude, we thank You for the incredible gift of salvation You have given us through Jesus Christ. Thank You for Your boundless grace and mercy that transforms our lives from shame to unashamed. We thank You for forgiving our past mistakes and giving us a fresh start. Help us to live out our faith boldly and share the powerful life-changing message of the Good News with others. May our lives be a testament to Your love and righteousness. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
