This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5:14 NIV
Without debate, prayer is an essential spiritual discipline. It is our communing with God through the Holy Spirit, connecting with our Creator and Savior with part of the Trinity that dwells within. There is nothing as intimate as these conversations.
That is what prayer is, but what do we pray for? Even in our most intimate conversations with God, we sometimes may be hesitant to ask for specific things, insecure in knowing it is okay. Today's verse assures us we should not be bashful in asking, but we ask seeking God's will. We see this in the prayer Jesus taught us, "your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
What is God's will? We do not know when or how he will answer, but we have the certainty he will. The answer, according to his will, is what is best for us, for God does not look at only the immediate but the long view,
God of Answers, we approach you today with confidence. We pray for healing, peace, and financial and food security. We pray for our families, churches, communities, nation, and the world. We pray for those in leadership. We pray for your followers and those who have not yet heard the good news. Most of all, Lord, we seek to be obedient and accepting of your will. We pray this in Christ’s holy name. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
