So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. Galatians 5:16 NLT
As we grow and gain independence, it's natural to explore the newfound freedoms we possess. Sometimes, the things our parents once said "no" to can become tempting opportunities to say "yes." Even when we understand the reasons behind their caution, the allure of liberation can lead us astray. For some, this may be a harmless exploration; however, for others, it can become a gateway to deeper temptations and misuse of freedom.
This struggle is not new. From the very beginning, Adam and Eve faced temptation in the Garden of Eden. The serpent deceived them, saying, "You won’t die!" to Eve. "God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4-5). Convinced by these words, they ate the forbidden fruit, leading humanity into a continuous struggle with sin.
God, however, desires something greater for us: to rise above the temptation to misuse or abuse our freedom and find true spiritual liberty through reconciliation and wholeness in Him and with others. We cannot achieve this transformation alone; we need God's guidance. That is why the Father sent the Son to offer salvation and the Holy Spirit to lead us.
Thanks to God’s prevenient grace—the grace that goes before us and enables us to respond to His call—we are awakened to our need for God and empowered to choose spiritual freedom. By the Holy Spirit, we are continually drawn forward into Christ-likeness, where we are perfected in love and freed from the power of sin.
Father God, we are grateful for the prevenient grace that awakens our hearts and the sanctifying grace that transforms us. Guide us today in our journey toward righteousness. Help those who are trapped in the false comfort of sin. Awaken their desire to abandon their sinful ways and seek true freedom in you. Grant us the wisdom to assist them on this path. We pray this in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
