Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1 NIV
Back in the days before Legos, we had Lincoln Logs. If you remember, they were round lengths of wood, flattened on the top and bottom, with notches on the ends and middle where they could be easily joined. While there was a picture on the box of what you could build with the pieces provided, you had freedom with what you created. The only limitation was the number of pieces. The larger the set, or the more sets you had, the greater the number of things you could create. The only other limitation was your imagination and creativity.
Faith is the spiritual equivalent of Lincoln Logs. In the Bible, we have stories of others' faith–pictures of what it can look like, but that's not a replacement for our own. We need to experience it ourselves.
Faith grows! The more we obtain, the more we can do. The potential of what we can build is limited only by our faith.
Doubt and fear work together to try and limit our imagination and creativity. They tell us, "that's not possible," and "you can't." However, we know that's false; all things are possible with God. (Matthew 19:26)
God, thank you for the building blocks of faith. We confess at times; we let fear and doubt limit our potential. When that happens, help us remember the faith of others in the Bible and recall what we've done before. May these times refresh and energize us, and our faith grows from the experience. May all we build be beautiful in your sight. In Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
