Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. - John 14:27 (NIV)
Have you heard the expression, “My happy place”? No, I’m not talking about Disneyland, “The Happiest Place on Earth,” though it is a happy place for some. Our happy place is our escape when things get anxious and stressful. When you can’t physically go there, you can close your eyes and remember the place or activity that brings you peace. For me, it’s a bench in my town that overlooks a pond where the colorful leaves of fall are reflected. I close my eyes and remember its tranquility when I can't visit in person.
The peace that Jesus offers is not dependent on our circumstances or surroundings. It's a deep, abiding peace that comes from knowing Him and trusting His promises. Unlike the temporary escape of our 'happy places,' Jesus' peace is constant and enduring, offering us calm and comfort even amid life's storms.
So, the next time you feel overwhelmed, remember that Jesus' peace is available. You don’t need to escape to your happy place; instead, you can find genuine rest and tranquility in Him.
Gracious Father, we come before You today seeking the peace only You can provide. Thank You for the promise of peace that Jesus gave us, a peace that surpasses all understanding. When life becomes overwhelming, and we feel the weight of our worries, help us to remember that Your peace is always available to us. May we turn to You in times of stress and anxiety, finding rest in Your presence and comfort in Your love. Help us to remain steadfast in our faith, knowing You are our refuge and strength, and fill us with Your tranquility so that we may be a source of calm and comfort to those around us. We pray this in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
