You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)
It's fair to say we live in a world where peace is hard to find. Our days are filled with so many distractions—calls, notifications, reminders, emails, and texts—that it's hard to find serenity amid the busyness. Even when the ringing and pinging aren’t coming from our phones, we feel compelled to check. But today’s verse assures us peace is possible.
When our souls focus on the eternal, it gives us a perspective of what is truly important. That's not to say all the ringing and pinging aren’t important, but there are friends to keep in touch with and situations to address. However, many things redirect our attention away from God. We often find ourselves overwhelmed by the chaos of daily life, our minds racing with worries and our hearts heavy with stress. These distractions can lead us away from the tranquility that God offers. But when we intentionally shift our focus back to God, we anchor our souls in His unwavering peace.
However, God offers to keep us in perfect peace. When we “keep” something, we hold onto it, maintain it, and preserve it. It is something we cherish. For example, when we keep a secret for a friend, it shows we value them and have a level of intimacy with them. God holds us as His beloved and does so in perfect peace. We may find temporary moments of serenity. We may escape to an island or a mountaintop and experience momentary tranquility as we break away from the ringing and pinging. But God offers a profound, unwavering, and eternal sense of peace.
We can experience this profound peace when we keep our minds focused on God. We can find a deep and abiding sense of calm and assurance in Him that transcends external circumstances. Whatever our situation, no matter how desperate the news is, when we keep our minds–our souls–focused on God, trusting in His goodness and grace, we experience perfect peace.
Amid life's demands and distractions, let us remember to turn our hearts and minds toward God. His promise of perfect peace is not contingent on the absence of chaos but on our steadfast trust in Him. When we make God the center of our focus, we will experience a peace that surpasses all understanding.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise of perfect peace. In a world filled with distractions and turmoil, help us to keep our minds steadfast and focused on You. Grant us the wisdom to trust in Your goodness and to seek Your presence in every moment. May Your perfect peace guard our hearts and minds, comforting us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
