Taste and See

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” - Psalms 34:8 (NIV)

If you are of a certain age, you may remember the Life cereal ad from the '70s starring Mikey. In the commercial, his real-life older brothers are convinced they won't like healthy Life cereal, and they use four-year-old Mikey as a guinea pig because "He won't eat it. He hates everything." They are surprised when Mikey digs in with gusto, "He likes it!"

Like Mikey's brothers, many people are convinced they won't like a relationship with God before even giving it a taste. They wrongly think there are too many rules; they must give up too much, and it's too hard. However, once they taste it, they discover they like it—all those things they once perceived as obstacles no longer matter.

Just as Mikey’s brothers were surprised by his enthusiasm, we can, too, be amazed at the joy and fulfillment of tasting the Lord’s goodness.

Most Gracious God, we give thanks for all grace. We have tasted You and know You are good. We rejoice in Your presence. You are our refuge, surrounding us with love, offering compassion and strength, and extending your forgiveness. Help us share our joy and enthusiasm with others so that they, too, may desire to taste You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
