The Ever-Present Light

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. - John 1:5 (NIV)

A few weeks ago, upon returning home, I pressed the garage remote, and nothing happened. Upon entering the house, I reached over to flick on a light—darkness. I checked the National Grid service site, and it reported that the outage would be about two hours—no problem, I thought, a minor inconvenience. However, as the afternoon wore on into the evening, with the dark setting in and the house growing cold, I connected the portable generator. The lights were back on within minutes, and the gas furnace quickly worked to warm the house.

Like my physical experience with the power outage, many go through seasons of spiritual darkness. We may stumble, feeling lost and cold, thinking we must endure the darkness alone. Yet, John 1:5 (NIV) tells us, "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." This verse reveals a profound truth: we don't need to dwell in darkness because the Light has already come in Jesus Christ.

Spiritually, Jesus is our ever-present source of light and warmth. Accepting Him as our Lord and Savior allows His light to dispel the shadows in our hearts and minds. We need not fear the darkness, for it has no power over the light of Christ. His light guides us, comforts us, and gives us hope.

No matter how deep the night may seem, remember that Jesus' light shines brighter. Just like I connected the generator to restore power in my home, we can connect to Jesus and experience the warmth and clarity His light brings into our lives.

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to be the light in our darkness. Help us to embrace His light and to walk in it, casting aside our fears and doubts. May His presence guide, comfort, and fill us with hope. Strengthen our faith and let us be beacons of His light to others still in darkness. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
